Colorado River
My family and I drove to Phoenix from Salt Lake City last month. We decided to take a more scenic route so we drove down Highway 89B. There were many places that we didn’t have time to stop but we took some time to stop at the Navajo Bridges that cross the Colorado river. Even though the light was pretty harsh in these photos I like how the metal bridges look against the red sandstone. For the history of these bridges be sure to read what Ann Torrence has to say about these structures.
First Light
Today I joined Nathan Marx for an early morning photowalk at the Great Salt Lake (utah). We spent most of our time around old piers, rocks and an old truck. The three logs here are what’s left over from an old pier I’m guessing. The sun had just peaked over the Wasatch Mountains lighting up these logs to be what I consider the best light of the day. Siddoway Wedding
My good buddy Nathan Marx asked me if I would be interested in assisting him with a wedding he was photographing, I of course accepted the offer. This was my first experience photographing a wedding and I had a blast. The wedding was held at the Salt Lake City, Utah Mormon Temple. The weather was a perfect fall day.
I walked away from the experience with an appreciation for wedding photographers. It’s a lot of work and takes a certain kind of person to work with a large group of people. We had a stressful moment but Nate handled it well and was able to get some amazing pictures. If asked again, I would gladly accept the offer. Below are a few of my favorites.
Hastings Family Portrait
I recently photographed the Hastings family. We picked the perfect time to go to Mueller Park in East Bountiful Utah. The fall colors were at their peak and it was a prefect day for photos. Just a few days before we were there a man came face to face with a cougar, he didn’t get hurt but was pretty shaken up. Below are a few of my favorites.

Wailua River Hawaii – Panorama
Now that winter is approaching I have more time to process through photos from our vacation to Kauai Hawaii that my family took this year. I’ve got multiple gigs of photos to process still. I thought I would share this panoramic view of the Wailua River valley taken on the island of Kauai (my favorite).
For today’s image, I captured three RAW files of the valley on my Canon 40D set to manual mode, the manual setting allowed me to get a consistent exposure across all three photos. After processing them in Adobe Lightroom using Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) I selected all three images in Lightroom and selected “Merge to Panorama in Photoshop CS3″. I then cropped the final photo and saved it as a jpeg file. CS3 did a great job stitching the photos together.

Utah State Capitol
I upgraded my camera this week to a Canon 5d Mark II. I haven’t had much time to take some serious photos yet so yesterday I headed up to the state capitol building. I am thrilled for the full frame sensor and the low light capabilities and of course the 21 megapixel goodness.
Maddi – High School Senior
Last month was busy for me with high school senior photoshoots and families wanting fall photos. I will be sharing those images but thought I would share a few of my favorites of Maddi. I had an absolute blast with her and her mom. She is a talented ballet dancer and loves to hang out with my daughter. Full Gallery Here
