Light Tunnel

Today’s photo was taken in the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne Country Airport. The lights are choreographed to music and change colors to the beat of music. Even though I was in a bit of a hurry to catch my flight, there was no way I could pass up this photo opportunity.

Wild West

Today’s shot was taken in downtown Ogden Utah. This is a very large Mural on a side of a building. Ogden has some great buildings and structures that I’m planning on shooting in my spare time.

Evening Sun

While waiting for the sun to set to light up the fresh layer of snow on the Wasatch Mountains for this shot, I glanced over my shoulder to find this. I love how the sun is reflecting off the glass and onto the water. Even though this looks peaceful and calm it was a very cold winter day.

Keywording - A Lesson Learned

I spent some time this week organizing and backing up my photos to DVD’s for offsite storage. I also spent some time looking at photos from my photo bank.

Two years ago I spent some time in Europe on business and was able to take some time off for personal things. While looking through my trip photos I came across today’s shot of a spiral staircase taken in The Pantheon building in Paris France. I had forgotten about this picture and it brought back some memories of my trip. When I saw this photo I struggled with remembering where it was taken. I immediately went to view the keywords only to find there weren’t any. I didn’t get serious about keywording my photos until about a year ago so this year I will be going through my old photos and adding keywords. It’s a way for me to keep a mini journal of the event and to also make it easy to locate photos.

My wife has been struggling with keywording her photos and really didn’t catch the vision until over the holidays when she wanted to find some photos of our children that I had taken last year. I took the time to add keywords when they were processed and because of that it took her seconds to find what she wanted. She now understands the importance of keywording and has implemented that into her workflow when she processes her photos.

If you haven’t started keywording you photos, now is a good time to start.

Sunset Barn

As I drove past this old barn the other day, the weathered wood caught my eye. The sun was setting and was shining on the west side of the barn leaving a very yellow tint to the wood. I have a Circular Polarizer filter on my list to purchase one of these days, this would have been a perfect opportunity to use it to make the sky dark blue.

All the old barns are being torn down in my neighborhood to make room for all the large homes being built. I suspect this barn will be torn down along with the farm house some day.

Around the Bend

This shot was taken in an empty field close to my home in Syracuse Utah. One of the things that drew me to the trail was what was behind the camera, a cemetery. I suspect this is a shortcut for kids on their way to or home from school. I’m not sure as a kid I would have taken this shortcut through the cemetery.

Happy New Year!
